NEW SYRACUSE FIREFIGHTERS GRADUATE JUNE 5

The newest class of Syracuse Recruit Firefighters graduate basic training on June 5, 2009.  The relationship between SPAAMFAA and the Syracuse Fire Department goes back to our earliest roots and continues to this day. The recruits had the opportunity to have a class picture taken with former Syracuse  Fire Department Engine 12 - "Bertha" our 1923 Ahrens Fox Model P-S-4  and Former Syracuse Fire Department Engine 1 - a 1928 Seagrave Model 6.W.T. now owned by CNY SPAAMFAA Member Gary Thurston.

Thanks to Drivers Denny Randall and Pat Gannon and crew members Stu Woodcock, Dan Tokarz and Barry Lasky for their assisstance with this detail.

We received a nice thank you letter through Denny Randall from Probationary Firefighter Brian Henderson. If the name sounds familiar he is a member of the Henderson family that has been part of SPAAMFAA since our very early days

Denny-

Very good, the pictures came out very nice.

I also wanted to Thank You very much for all the time and effort that went into this today.  I know it was a special memory for myself, and I'm sure it was for the rest of the class also.  Every single one of them was impressed and amazed today by the 2 gorgeous pieces of apparatus.  I think it definitely gives them an insight into the tradition, pride, and history of not only the SFD, but the fire service in general.  I almost take it for granted, being around the trucks and the interesting people all my life, but seeing other people exposed to it for the first time really makes me realize how lucky I've always been.  I will definitely have a framed picture on my wall soon as a memory of the day.

Again, Thanks A Lot to you and all the members involved, from myself and the Syracuse Fire Dept Recruit Class 2009-1.

-Brian
