The Skaneateles
Fire Department will host our May meeting at their brand new Station No.1. Station 1 is located at the corner of West Genesee
Street (Route 20) and Kane Avenue (Route 41A) in the Village of Skaneateles. The majority of Skaneateles’ apparatus

are planned and a tour of the new facility will be on the program.

THANK YOU to Onondaga Hill Volunteer Fire Department for hosting our March
meeting. CNY member and Onondaga Hill President George Skelton and wife Diane were our gracious hosts. Diane prepared a delicious
corned beef and cabbage dinner and a firehouse tour was conducted by George. The 50/50 prize of $17.00 was won by Denny Randall.
THANK YOU to the
Fayetteville Fire Department for hosting our April meeting. Stu & Mary Jane Woodcock were our gracious hosts for the night
and a yummy dinner was enjoyed by all. The 50/50 drawing in the amount of $18.00 was won by Mary Jane Woodcock.
Following the meeting, a tour of Fayetteville’s 2007
Pierce 105' aerial ladder on a Dash cab was conducted. This unit was placed in service in July 2007 and is equipped with
a 2000 gpm Hale pump and 500 gallon water tank. The Quint carries 6 SCBA equipped firefighters. Three cross-lays along with
front and rear pre-connects provide sufficient hose lines and 800' of supply allows for long hydrant lays. Carrying 185'
of ground ladders and a full compliment of tools and equipment, this apparatus allows crews to handle any fireground task.
The rig replaces a 1989 Spartan/LTI that was Fayetteville's first aerial ladder, which responded to nearly 2000 runs in
Eastern Onondaga and Western Madison Counties during its tenure. Presently "Retired Truck-1" proudly
serves the Morrisville Fire Department in Southern Madison County.

Here's my brother
Tom's collection about 10 years ago. He still has the white cab 1950 Mack in the center.

MUSTER
“WORK” SHIRTS
In planning
for our upcoming Muster and 50th Anniversary event, it was decided to wear work blues with red suspenders during
the muster as was the custom in the early days of SPAAMFAA. Dan Tokarz has found a supply of suitable shirts. These
shirts are short sleeve work shirts, a “powder” blue or “very close” in color that are made with
cotton or polyester material and can be ordered in either material. They come in sizes S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL & 4XL. From
the 2XL up, there is a small extra charge for the larger sizes. From sizes small to XL the shirts will cost $14.00 dollars
each. It is anticipated that the Chapter will purchase the shirts in one order. Please place your order at our next meeting,
or send an e-mail to rsparrow@twcny.rr.com stating the size material and quantity of each of the shirt(s) you want to order. We are working on
locating a source for suitable red suspenders to go with the outfit.
BERTHA UPDATE
Step by step our Wednesday night Bertha details are showing progress. All of the plated items have
been completed and are being placed on the apparatus. At a recent work night, the newly plated gear shift & parking brake
levers, throttle quadrants, steering column and steering wheel were put back in place. The gold leafing is progressing
very nicely, although slower than anticipated. As the scrolls, stripes and lettering are completed, more equipment will be
re-installed.

Dan
Tokarz, Denny Randall & Dick Sparrow work on reassembling the steering column and wheel.

Chapter President Dick Sparrow takes the wheel, although it will be an uncomfortable ride without the seat in place.
You can see some of the new gold leaf work in the boxed in number 12 at the lower left corner of the photo.
