The attached video link
is of my fire engine (Mexico's (NY) old Engine 8) pumping water Friday June 5, 2009. I drove
the truck from my house to Metzgers Pond in Constantia. I was able to get water flowing in less than a minute....the
rotary gear primer works very well on this former Engine 8....My friend Jack Cottet manned the nozzle for me while I took
the video.
It has been an expensive project
with almost $15000 invested so far.....I am outfitting her with original equipment from that era.
I personally have rebuilt the deck gun, repacked the pump, rebuilt nozzles, performed various tasks, and added a vacuum
pump to provide additional vacuum for the brake system when the engine is short on vacuum. I also have an American Fire
Apparatus portable pump which is the same exact one that I used as a North Bay fireman in the early 60's (purchased from
North Bay).
I had Pat's Brake Service replace the entire basic vacuum booster brake
system along with the clutch master and slave.
I was also a former Fire Chief and Assistant
Chief of Mc Connellsville FD in the late 1970's and early 1980's and currently are working with North Bay again.
Sincerely,
Jim
